Dovetail Advocacy Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s a list of frequently asked questions to help you determine if Dovetail Advocacy is right to help you get the support and resources you need.
Why do I need Dovetail Advocacy for Older Adults?
It’s a common misconception that Medicare pays for long-term care and personal care for older adults. Knowing in advance that help with grocery shopping, performing activities of daily living, or traveling to medical appointments isn’t covered by Medicare allows families to plan for needs that may develop. Dovetail Advocacy can identify what services may be needed, work with you to secure help and arrange services, and connect you to professionals to provide additional direction in their area of specialty.
In addition, family relationships can strain when an adult child makes decisions for a parent. Dovetail Advocacy can be an impartial voice to preserve relationships and deliver information that may not be wanted but is needed.
What will I receive from Dovetail Advocacy?
We start with an in-person meeting, discussion and personalized written plan that draws on our 20 years of experience working with aging adults. We’ll provide recommendations to address present and future goals and needs with the capability to set up and coordinate the implementation of services. Dovetail Advocacy is based in Waukesha County and can provide ongoing support. We want to build a relationship to ensure any services you receive meet your expectations and we want to stay involved to modify things if needs change.
When do I need Dovetail Advocacy for Older Adults?
The best time to seek advice is before you really need it. Dovetail Advocacy can assist when your loved one manages day to day routines, but you begin to notice small changes or there is a new diagnosis. Being aware of what resources are available, how much they cost, and how to access the resources is important. For example, home care, respite for spouses, transportation services, or how to deal with unexpected hospitalizations. Moving slowly with sound advice from the start will help prevent rushed decisions that could be costly.
What is Your Service Area?
